Ros Bason takes inspiration from the way she experiences the everyday, whether “mis-seeing” things, overhearing, finding, or spotting the humour in the ordinary. Observations are frenetically recorded in notebooks; the key here is that Bason does not make technical artist studies or take overtly beautiful photographs as a resource. The result is that once in the studio, the work stays fresh and light. Painting often on cardboard or other non-traditional surfaces Ros uses broad, rapid strokes to investigate the source idea. The language of the paint itself, the colour, shape, marks add a level of poetry and pathos, nudging the viewer to remember their own experiences. Ros Bason is a visual artist and founder of @backgardenresidency1, she is based in Falmouth, Cornwall. 'Clodhopper Crashes' 21cm x 26cm, acrylic and marble dust on board - Ros Bason. £500
