Vanessa Chen is a ceramic artist, celebrating the temporal nature of clay. Her vessels capture her feelings about memories of landscapes and seascapes and personal stories of Chinese heritage in the language of ceramics. Her work is thrown on a wheel, in an energetic and spontaneous way, constantly pushing the boundaries of both material and creativity. Form and process are paramount and the finished vessels are an amalgam of the clay’s intentions and maker’s response to what already exists. She is showing two collections; the Ionian and the Unbound. She isn’t just telling her story but women’s stories through time and navigating the complexities of life.
